Article spinners are software programs that generate unique articles from existing ones using synonyms or similar words. They are used to create content for SEO websites, but their quality can be poor. Freelance writers are also used for spinning, but the legality of spinning copyrighted content is questionable.
An article spinner is a software program that uses a thesaurus or algorithm to generate a relatively unique article from an existing article. These programs are often careful to avoid substituting words that seriously distort the meaning of the article or make it completely unreadable. A poorly designed article spinner might produce nearly illegible articles, but even a good one is unlikely to come close to producing articles that read well and accurately reproduce all the facts of the original article. These programs are often used to generate new content for search engine optimized websites. The practice of spinning content that is not owned by the spinner user is highly controversial because spun items are never 100% unique.
Each item spinner is different but they all work in essentially the same way. They take a keyword and try to replace it with a synonym, or at least a similar word. For example, the dog could be replaced with a dog, and the coffee cup could be replaced with a coffee mug. Not all words can be replaced because the article will most likely end up so garbled that the original statement will be lost. Instead, an article spinner might aim for 30% to 60% uniqueness, whichever amount you think will fool the search engine the article is targeted for.
Article spinner programs are available in both free and paid versions. Normally, the average free spinner is not of a quality on par with a paid program. In many cases, however, the quality of the new article doesn’t matter because it is only meant to help a website rank higher on search engines. The legibility of the articles takes a back seat to this priority.
While the term article spinner traditionally refers to a program, more and more people are turning to freelance writers to spin their articles. In fact, some authors don’t write unique content; their writing is spun entirely from existing articles. Articles created by a real person are usually easier to read and have a better overall flow. Because of how widespread and easy article spinning is, some companies that outsource article writing have a hard time hiring freelance writers who do more than spin.
The legality of article rotation is dubious at best when the original article’s copyright is not owned. It is generally not considered possible to extract a 100% unique article from someone else’s copyrighted content. The new article may still have similar sentences and the same overall flow. Spun articles may also fail the plagiarism check, which is sufficient to prove copyright infringement in some jurisdictions.
