9/11: What occurred?

[ad_1]

On September 11, 2001, terrorists attacked the US, flying planes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Brave individuals on United Airlines Flight 93 prevented another attack by crashing the plane. Many heroes risked their lives to help others, and the world came together to offer condolences. The attacks were atrocities and not justified in any way.

September 11, 2001 was a bright, crisp morning in many regions of the United States that was shattered when the nation was attacked by terrorists. Americans and friends around the world remember where they were and what they were doing that fateful Tuesday morning when the first attack began as a plane flew into the World Trade Center in New York.

On September 11, 2001 at 8:46 am Eastern Time, American Airlines Flight 11 was flown into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. At first many believed the event to be an accident, simple pilot error. News of the incident preceded many regular programs as cameramen and photographers captured flames, billowing smoke and, sadly, the bodies of people who plummeted to their deaths rather than become trapped in the building. As reporters and ordinary people continued to film, take pictures, and watch the sky, another plane, United Airlines Flight 175, was flown into the south tower at 9:02 am. America was clearly under attack.

Before people could absorb the shock, another attack was performed. Unbeknownst to the Americans, at least one other plane headed for Washington, D.C. At 9:37 in the morning, American Airlines Flight 77 was flown into the Pentagon, the headquarters of American military operations. People were horrified to learn that other planes that may have been hijacked had not yet been identified. Loved ones of United Airlines Flight 93 passengers began receiving phone calls, discovering that the flight had indeed been hijacked. They told their loved ones about the previous attacks.

The brave men and women of Flight 93 refused to let their plane or their deaths be used to hurt America. They died like heroes, while recapturing the plane, crashing it in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, instead of allowing the hijacked plane to reach its intended target, believed to be near Washington, DC. It was 10:03 on 9/11. 2001.
In less than an hour and a half, three American landmarks had been hit and one narrowly avoided. Soon, US airspace was completely shut down. Many believe that more attacks were still going on on 9/11 and that this unprecedented move by the US government thwarted further atrocities.
America learned a lot about heroes on September 11, 2001. First responders, including police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and a host of off-duty first responders, construction workers, medical professionals, and ordinary people risked their lives to help to evacuate as many people as possible from the burned and badly damaged Twin Towers, as well as from the Pentagon. Brave men and women lost their lives on 9/11, along with their victims inside every building and aboard every plane.
Many sayings are associated with the atrocities of 9/11, such as “We will never forget.” Certainly, Americans will never forget the day when thousands of innocent people, their parents, siblings, children, spouses and friends were murdered on American soil. 9/11 is also known as “the day the United States came together again” and “the day the world changed”. It’s true that Americans came together to help each other through the harrowing events and aftermath of that day. It is also true that the world reacted to the attack of 11 September 2001 and perhaps the world has changed.
Americans have been touched by the heartfelt sentiments and condolences shared by citizens and leaders of more than 100 other nations. Hearing the national anthem played in other countries has brought new tears to the eyes of many. The tributes and kindnesses were immeasurable and helped America deal with the atrocities of 9/11, as well as the taunts of its enemies, who danced in the streets and celebrated the brutal deaths of nearly 3,000 Americans in an attack unprovoked and unprecedented.
While some believe that US foreign policy helped incite these attacks, they were not acts of self-defense, nor is there any way to justify such tactics. The September 11, 2001 attacks were carried out primarily against civilians and were nothing more than atrocities, perpetrated by terrorist extremists.
