Portable spray booths are used in industries such as automotive for offsite customer service. They come in sizes ranging from 30-50 inches wide and use ductless ceiling fans or descending benches to remove paint fumes. Filters vary based on the type of paint used, with most using activated carbon. Customers should consider frequency of use when choosing a size.
Portable spray booths come in a variety of sizes with a ceiling fan or a hidden bottom-descending mechanism for the removal of harmful chemical fumes. These industrial booths are used for offsite customer service within industries such as automotive; parts can be professionally painted in a secure booth for quick customer service. Several filters are used within the booth to create a portable, ductless paint area.
The size of most portable spray booths ranges between 30 and 50 inches (76 and 127 cm) wide. Most manufacturers do not offer larger sizes as the cab would become difficult to move, effectively losing its portability. Customers in the portable spray booth market should estimate frequency of use; a smaller booth would be a practical choice for those businesses that travel for many different customers in one day. Larger cabins would be better suited for less frequent movements as the overall structure is much heavier.
To maintain portability, most of these booths use ductless ceiling fans to remove paint fumes. The fan sucks the fumes upwards from the painted surface; these fumes normally pass through one or more filters before the air leaves the cabin. Customers can have custom fans and filters installed based on the typical paint that will be used with the system. Incredibly strong paint fumes may require a heavy-duty fan and several filters for general safe use.
Another type of booth uses a descending bench to trap paint fumes. Portable down-bench spray booths still have an air hood, but all of the air is drawn straight down through the workbench surface and into a filter area. Bench mounted wheels and filter housing allow for easy movement of the booth. Customers may prefer these types of portable spray booths as the top hood can be smaller as the fan is hidden under the bench.
The filters used in portable spray booths vary in quantity and type depending on the type of paint being used. Some larger cab designs use up to three filters for effective removal of particulate matter from the air. Conversely, small models may only use one or two filters. Most models use activated carbon as one of the filter types; carbon absorbs odors and small particles. As a result, the cab does not need a complex, permanent ducting system to carry noxious fumes away from the operator.
