Kazakhstan produces 35% of the world’s uranium supply and has 15% of the Earth’s uranium resources. The country had no nuclear power plants until recently. Uranium has a high melting point and is used to make glass with a yellow or greenish tint. It was discovered in 1879 and named after the planet Uranus.

Kazakhstan produces 35% of the world’s uranium supply and hosts 15% of the Earth’s total uranium resources. Interestingly, Kazakhstan had no nuclear power plants of its own as of 2012, although it was in the process of developing a nuclear program. However, the country had one reactor from the 1970s to the 1990s.
