Do moon footprints last?

[ad_1]

Footprints on the moon can last for millions of years due to the lack of weather and erosion. The only factors that can erase them are solar wind and meteorites, which can take a long time to occur. The moon is about the same age as the Earth and the first human footprint was made by Neil Armstrong in 1969.

The moon does not experience weather, so footprints remain for a very long time unless meteorites or solar wind erase them. Although the moon’s surface is composed of mineral rocks that are as fine as dust in places, the footprints don’t disappear right away because there is no atmosphere. Without regular wind or rain to erode them, footprints can remain on the moon for millions of years. The only reasons footprints can fade or disappear at some point are solar wind or meteorites. The moon often experiences what are called “micrometeorites” – tiny meteorite particles that strike the moon’s surface at great speed. There is also the solar wind, the particles of the sun. Scientists believe rocks on the moon’s surface erode about 0.04 inches (0.1 centimeters) in 1 million years. So even if the footprints on the moon vanish, it will take a long time to occur.

More about the moon:

The first human footprint on the moon was that of Neil Armstrong, who walked on the moon on July 20, 1969.
The moon is the satellite of the Earth and about four moons can fit into the Earth.
The moon is believed to be about the same age as the Earth: 4.6 billion years.
