The evolution of personal beer delivery systems has led to the development of the beer helmet and now the beer belt, which consists of six plastic drink holders threaded through a nylon belt. It is an ideal solution for tailgate parties and can be purchased at larger beverage stores or online. It can also be used for other applications such as holding soft drinks or bottled water during a family picnic or hike.
Personal beer delivery systems are also apparently subject to the evolutionary process. First, there was the stadium cup, a large serving of beer prone to spillage and other proximity trauma. The next logical step was the development of the beer helmet. This device allows the user to place two beer cans on either side of the helmet and slurp the contents through a plastic tube. Social acceptance of this beer delivery system has been variable at best, with its capacity still limited to two beer cans.
Enter the newest solution to the beer dilemma; a fancy device known as a beer belt or hop holster. A beer belt consists of six plastic drink holders threaded through a nylon belt. The beer belt user loads canned or bottled beer into the holders and places the adjustable belt around their waist. A hop case can also be slung around the user’s shoulder for a different effect. Sometimes bar servers serve patrons beers from a beer belt or hop sleeve.
The beer belt is an ideal tailgate party solution as it leaves both hands free for other activities. Partygoers and sports fans can charge from a cooler and top up if needed. Empty cans or bottles can be put back into the beer belt for easy disposal or recycling.
Although considered by some to be a novelty or gag gift, a basic beer belt can often be purchased at larger beverage stores or specialty stores online. Some can also be personalized with a beer company logo or the official colors of a sports team. A standard beer belt typically sells for $15-$20 US, although more advanced models with insulated forks can sell for much more. Since the basics—a nylon belt and portable cup holder—can be purchased separately, a booze-drinking entrepreneur could create a homemade beer belt with a few modifications.
Obviously a beer belt could be used for other applications as well. The device could also hold canned or bottled soft drinks during a family picnic, and a hiker or climber could store bottled water or energy drinks in a more accessible place than a backpack.
