Until 2006, getting or giving a tattoo was illegal in South Carolina and Oklahoma. The first legal tattoo in South Carolina was done in March 2006, and the first legal tattoo in Oklahoma was inked that same year. Over 40 million Americans have at least one tattoo, and one in four Americans aged 18 to 50 has at least one tattoo.
