Enlisting in the US Army under MOS 92Y is the first step to becoming a Unit Supply Specialist. Successful completion leads to placement in a unit as a Supply Specialist.
To become a Unit Supply Specialist, you will need to enlist in the United States Army under Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 92Y. Responsible for the efficient but effective distribution of supplies to soldiers in the garrison and in the field, the unit supply specialist will need relevant training provided by the Army. This means attending and successfully completing basic training. After that, the new soldier will need to attend full MOS training to become a unit supply specialist. Training ensures that the soldier understands how the Army’s logistics and supply systems work, as well as what is required for the role when placed in a unit supply depot.
Enlisting in the Army is the necessary first step to becoming a unit supply specialist. Application requirements will include a high school diploma or equivalent if the applicant attended school outside the United States, a clean criminal history, and US residency status. Candidates will need to visit an Army recruitment center, take and successfully pass the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test, and apply for the MOS 92Y upon enlistment. If there are slots available in the MOS 92Y and applicants achieve high enough scores on the ASVAB for that MOS, they will be placed in one of these slots, after passing the required training. The minimum score for 92Y is 95 below the office line (CL) score.
Reporting and graduating from basic training is the next step towards becoming a unit supply specialist. During basic training, the new recruit will need to learn how to function as a contributing soldier in the US Army. He will learn basic combat skills, technical and communication skills, and how to operate various weapons and computer systems used by the Army. The recruit will also improve fitness and maintain Army physical fitness standards. Successful completion of basic training allows the new soldier to progress to MOS training for 92Y.
During training to become a unit supply specialist, the new soldier learns to perform all the tasks required for the role. Students will focus on learning inventory control and accounting procedures. In addition, he will learn the proper procedures for receiving stock and ammunition, how to transport both, how to store them, and how to ship them to soldiers in the unit. In addition, the new soldier will learn special handling procedures for medical and food supplies, as well as moving, storing, and maintaining ammunition. Successful completion culminates in earning the 92Y MOS and placement in a unit as a Supply Specialist.
