What’s Data Acquisition?

[ad_1]

Data can be entered into a database through devices like a mouse, keyboard, touch screen, or speech recognition software. Data capture involves collecting data without entry. Barcode scanners, magnetic stripe readers, POS terminals, OCR, and RFID are examples of data capture technologies.

Data entry can be done in several ways, including data entry. In data entry, data is entered into selected fields of a database by a human agent using a device such as a mouse, keyboard, keypad, touch screen or stylus, or alternatively with speech recognition software. Data capture is a type of data input where there is no data entry. Instead, the data is collected together with a separate activity.

One of the devices involved in this method are supermarket checkouts equipped with barcode scanners. These readers are electronic devices that use a laser beam to scan a barcode. They are classified as contactless automatic data capture devices and must be close to the material they are scanning to read it.

Magnetic stripe readers, also called magnetic card machines, collect information stored in the magnetic material found on bank, debit and credit cards. This information often includes an account number, customer identification number, and other information. ATMs can also read this information. If the magnetic stripe is damaged or exposed to a strong magnetic or electric field, the information will not be recoverable.

A POS terminal, through which credit card transactions are sent and validated, reads the bank name and customer account number of a card swiped through a magnetic stripe reader. If the bank replies that the funds are available, the POS terminal transfers the approved amount to the seller’s account, completing the transaction with a printed receipt.

Optical character recognition (OCR) involves converting a scanned image of printed or handwritten text into characters that word processing programs can recognize. It is also used to keep documents electronically without having to manually re-enter the data.
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a data acquisition technology in which the identification of items is done via transponders attached to them. A transponder is a type of passive radio relay equipment. Its function is to passively respond with a repetition of the original signal or a coded acknowledgment signal when struck by a start signal. RFIDs work from greater distances than barcode readers, which is one of their values.
