Disneyland Park in California offers rides and attractions suitable for all ages, but choosing rides for children depends on their age, height, and fears. For younger children, rides without thrill components like Disneyland Railroad and Storybook Land Canal Boats are recommended. Older children can enjoy rides at Fantasyland, Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters, and the jungle cruise. Thrill seekers can try Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and Splash Mountain. It is important to familiarize yourself with the rides and read safety information before boarding.

Disneyland Park in California is meant to be a park suitable for all ages. Disneyland’s variety of rides and attractions can be daunting, but ensures there is something for everyone to enjoy. If you’re traveling with children, their choice of rides at Disneyland will depend on their age and height, as well as their particular fears or concerns about the rides.

For children up to seven years old, many Disneyland rides will be too thrilling or scary, although this depends in part on the child’s fears. Peter Pan Flight may seem like a tame and fun ride for kids, but if a kid has a fear of flying vehicles or crocodiles, it’s not the best choice. For very shy children, you may prefer rides that lack thrill components, such as the Disneyland Railroad, The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh, or The Enchanted Tiki Room.

Other excellent choices are the slow-paced Storybook Land Canal Boats or It’s a Small World After All. If the thrill rides at Tomorrowland sound too scary, Innoventions offers a futuristic, interactive area where kids can learn about new technology, create their own virtual fireworks display and try out video game systems.

Older children or those who don’t express a fear of rides can enjoy Disneyland rides at Fantasyland that transport guests through famous Disney stories. The Adventures of Snow White, The Daring Journey of Pinocchio, Flight of Peter Pan and The Wild Ride of Mr. Toad all have slightly scary moments, but they have no twists, turns or flops on the track. Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters let kids jump into the action, using a laser gun to fend off aliens and with a readout of your scorecard.

For the adventurous, don’t miss the jungle cruise with river trekking or the chance to explore caves and meet pirates at Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island. Children of all ages can also enjoy the many children’s themed attractions in the Toontown area, located behind Fantasyland. Future divers will love the new Finding Nemo underwater journey, although some may find the submarines a little claustrophobic. Of the three large roller coasters available at Disneyland, the Matterhorn Bobsleds is probably the best for roller coaster novices, but be sure to warn the kids about the infamous Yeti who lives in the ride.

Thrill seekers will find plenty of thrilling rides at Disneyland to choose from. Space Mountain launches riders into space for an exhilarating ride through fields of stars. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Splash Mountain combine Old West style with amazing drops, twists and the occasional giant wave of water. Two classic Disneyland rides, Pirates of the Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion, are conveniently located next to each other and offer fully immersive and sometimes frightening environments. Perhaps the most physically taxing ride in the park is the intensely bumpy and twisting ride through Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye.

If you are new to Disneyland rides and are traveling with children, familiarize yourself with the rides before bringing a child. If you’re a Disneyland veteran, explain to your child what will happen on each ride and if anything surprising happens. It is not advisable to bring a scared or upset child around, as it can ruin the experience for you, the child and other guests. As with any amusement park, read all safety information before boarding any Disneyland ride, and make sure your child meets the height requirements for their own safety.
