Best small forklift? How to choose?

To choose the best small forklift, consider its intended use, weight rating, budget, and location. Indoor forklifts differ from outdoor ones, and the power source and tires should also be considered.

The easiest way to choose the best small forklift is to first determine how and where you will be using it. Indoor forklifts will be designed differently than forklifts intended for outdoor use, and the height of shelves or platforms that the forklift will need to access will determine the overall dimensions of the lift. Also consider your budget for buying or renting a small forklift, as the cost can vary widely depending on the size and design of the forklift; electric motorized elevators, for example, can be less expensive to purchase or lease than a diesel engine.

Perhaps the most important consideration when choosing a small forklift is the weight rating. This rating will tell you how much load the elevator can safely carry and lift without risking instability or damage to the elevator itself. Manufacturers will list this information on web pages or in-store point-of-sale materials, and you’ll want to pay close attention to this number. Determine in advance how much weight you are likely to lift or move on a regular basis so you can decide how big of a lift you need. In some cases, a hand lifter will suffice, while in other cases a larger petrol lifter may be required.

The location in which the small forklift will operate will have a significant effect on which lift is best for you. Elevators that operate indoors usually come with solid rubber tires, but such tires aren’t ideal for use outdoors or on uneven surfaces. Instead, outdoor lifts usually come with pneumatic tires for greater stability and maneuverability. The small forklift intended for indoor use may also need to be exceptionally narrow, especially if you intend to use it in a retail establishment or warehouse with narrow aisles. Some small forklift models are specifically designed for such purposes. You’ll need to decide if you want a small yoke- or handle-operated forklift that requires you to walk behind the lift, or if you want a larger one that you can sit in and operate the controls from inside.

Also think about how the elevator is powered. Indoor elevators are usually electric for several reasons: first, such elevators tend to be quieter than petrol or diesel elevators; secondly, they do not produce exhaust gases which could otherwise accumulate in the building and cause respiratory problems. However, electric lifts may not be powerful enough for some applications, so if the lift will be used outdoors or will be used for heavier loads, consider a petrol lift or diesel lift.
