Properly canned blueberry preserves can keep for a year in a pantry or cupboard. After opening, however, the jars must be refrigerated. If unsealed and refrigerated, they will keep for as long as they have been in commercial storage.

Blueberry preserves are often used as toppings for ice cream or other sweet desserts. They can also be baked into cobblers or pies or can be spread on toast like jam or jelly. These preserves are similar to blueberry compote, which is made in much the same way but served immediately, usually as a hot topping for desserts.
