Campus catering types?

[ad_1]

College and university meal options vary by location and institution, with most having a main dining hall and smaller restaurants. Meal plans are often required, with balanced menus and regional specialties. Students with kitchens may have partial plans and can also dine on-campus or at food trucks.

The different types of meals available on campus will vary according to the country or region in which the college or university is located and each institution itself. Most colleges and universities have one main dining hall and many smaller restaurants scattered around the campus. While college dorms typically don’t include kitchens, many campuses have at least some student housing units that do. Many higher education institutions require all students to follow some type of meal plan.

The school may require meal plans for students when paying tuition. Students attending school on financial aid often have their meal plans covered by that program. The campus dinner for students on a meal plan takes place in the main dining hall of the college or university. Some of these campus food outlets are large and more like a restaurant than a traditional type of institutional cafeteria. Tables, booths, and bar stool options may be available in the central dining room.

Meals in the school plan are typically balanced with protein, starch, and produce options. Menus are likely to include regional specialties and popular cuisine from other cultures. Students in the Campus Dining Hall Meals Program may be allowed to eat as many meal components as they like in one sitting. Some campus dining halls have separate self-serve areas such as a salad bar or ice cream station. Many schools publish weekly menus of what meals will consist of; some colleges and universities also include dinners or special events in each student’s meal plan payment.

Students living in campus housing with a kitchen may have a partial meal plan. They can purchase groceries to stock the kitchen at an on-campus convenience store or shop off-campus at a supermarket. Both students with full and partial meal plans can experience on-campus dining in the main hall as well as other establishments on the college or university campus. These restaurants can be mini versions of fast food chains or familiar sandwich restaurants.

On some campuses, another popular dining option is a mobile food truck. Food offered on mobile food trucks that are allowed to park on college and university campuses at lunchtime is usually cheap and quick to eat such as sandwiches or hamburgers. Typically, food truck campus dining is not covered by the food plan, but operates strictly on a cash basis.
