As such, a person can get oily skin from their parents or during a surge of hormones, but they’re not at risk because they eat chocolate.

In many cases, discussions of chocolate and acne center on teenagers. Teens often don’t eat as healthy as their loved ones would like. Then, when loved ones see them eating things like candy bars and potato chips, they often assume junk food overload is the cause of their acne.

Although there is no connection between the consumption of chocolate and acne, there are some very good reasons why a person may do well to consume it in moderation and not in excess. First, chocolate candies usually contain a high amount of sugar, and some are also high in fat. In general, excess sugar and fat is bad for a person’s overall health. Similarly, if a person eats a lot of chocolate and similar sweets, they may not try as hard to eat enough fruits and vegetables that help promote healthy skin.
