Cinnamon gum?

Cinnamon bubble gum has artificial cinnamon flavors that create a spicy, warm sensation. Gum has been around for thousands of years, and modern rubber was first made from chicle. Synthetic latex and rubber are now used, but some contain potentially harmful substances. Chewing gum with xylitol can help keep teeth clean.

Cinnamon bubble gum refers to any brand of bubble gum that has been treated with artificial cinnamon flavors. These flavors tend to make the gum spicy, and chewing this type of gum initially feels like chewing on hot, gummy pepper. While some people who chew cinnamon gum find the tangy quality of the flavor overwhelming, many people enjoy the heat and also prefer other candies or snacks as well. The warmth in cinnamon gum does not typically come from the plant or spice commonly known as cinnamon, but from artificial flavors that create the spiciness and warmth in the chewer’s mouth.

Chewing gum has been around in a variety of forms for thousands of years. While most rubber is currently made using a form of unvulcanized synthetic rubber, there is evidence of a 5,000-year-old chewing gum made from birch tar. Cultures around the world in recent millennia have produced wax gum, resin and other similar substances. In the 1800s, however, modern rubber first came into being when chicle, a natural latex product, was exported from Mexico for use as a substitute for rubber. While chicle failed to find a successful use in replacing rubber, it was found to be an excellent foundation for making rubber.

The chicle has been replaced by most rubber manufacturers in favor of other less expensive forms of synthetic latex and rubber. These substances are designed and engineered to retain flavor for as long as possible in response to the common complaint of many gum chewers that gum loses its flavor too quickly as it is chewed. Cinnamon gum often suffers from this problem, and within a short time of chewing, the initial heat and spiciness is replaced by a mild warmth and tingling on the chewer’s tongue.

Although chewing gum sweetened with sugar can have adverse effects on a person’s teeth, chewing gum with some artificial sweeteners and other ingredients has been shown to reduce plaque and cavities. Cinnamon chewing gum with the sweetener xylitol can help keep teeth clean because the process of chewing gum starves microorganisms that would otherwise be harmful to someone’s mouth. The vinyl acetate used by some rubber manufacturers has leaders in countries like Canada concerned about potentially carcinogenic substances that shouldn’t be placed in a person’s mouth. Since ingredients are often only listed as “gum base” by manufacturers, it has been difficult to keep such undesirable substances away from public consumption.
