Queen Elizabeth II, who first learned to drive during WWII, is exempt from having a driving license or number plates on her vehicles as the monarch of the UK. She even drove Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Abdullah around her estate in her Range Rover. She celebrates two birthdays each year.
Queen Elizabeth II is 92 years old, but she doesn’t slow down, not even in the car. As monarch of the United Kingdom, the Queen is the only person in the country who doesn’t have to worry about pedestrian things like getting a driving license or having number plates on her vehicles. She nor she has ever had to pass a driving test. That might sound like quite the royal treatment, but keep in mind that then-Princess Elizabeth first got behind the wheel as a member of the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service during WWII. In that capacity, she worked as a mechanic and drove military trucks. Now, of course, someone else is taking care of her cars. It’s good to be queen.
Meet the Queen:
In 1998, while entertaining Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Abdullah, the Queen insisted on driving her guest around the Balmoral estate in her Range Rover.
As well as being without a licence, the Queen doesn’t even need a British passport, all of which are issued in her name anyway.
Queen Elizabeth II celebrates two birthdays each year: her real one, on 21 April, and her official one, usually in June, as part of the Trooping the Color parade.
