Drum Conveyor: What is it?

Drum conveyors can refer to systems that transport industrial drums or use drum rollers to move large objects. They are suitable for warehouses and factories, and can be manual or automatic. They are useful in shipping facilities and can also be designed for industrial-sized storage drums.

The term “drum conveyor” can refer to different types of conveying systems; some systems are designed to handle industrial size drums and transport them remotely within a factory or warehouse. Other drum conveyor systems are so named because they use a series of cylinders known as drums to transport items along a track. These drums run perpendicular to the track walls and multiple drums are mounted in succession to provide a surface over which large objects can travel. This system is not suitable for smaller items that can fall between the drums or for fabrics that can become entangled in the system.

Warehouses and factories are the most common settings where a drum conveyor system will be used. The design so called because of the drum rollers can be used to carry any variety of items as long as those items are not small enough to block the rollers; boxes and pallets are suitable for such systems. This drum transport system can be a manual or an automatic system. This means that the drums will not be powered and users will have to push objects along the track for the system to work, or the drums will be powered by motors that propel objects forward.

Such drum conveyor systems are especially useful in shipping facilities. Packages can be sorted, examined and prepared for loading onto trucks quickly and efficiently using conveyor systems. Boxes can be moved quickly across a gap without damaging them, and workers won’t have to lift heavy boxes until they reach the far end of the conveyor system, where they’ll be loaded onto trucks or pallets.

Drum conveyor systems designed with industrial sized storage drums in mind function similarly to the other system mentioned, although these systems may feature rubberized belts that the industrial sized drums will rest on during transport. The belt is wound around numerous cylinders along the track and two or more of the cylinders will be connected to a drive motor. Chances are the system will also feature tall metal rails that will help stabilize the drums, especially if they’re being carried around corners or uphill or downhill. Large storage drums can be quite heavy, especially when filled with materials, so the conveyor system will need to be strong enough to handle the weight.
