Firefox is a fast and secure browser with advanced features such as tabbed browsing and a popup blocker. However, it has compatibility and memory issues, and interrupted downloads cannot be resumed.
People who are accustomed to using one type of internet browser may be reluctant to try another brand, even when people claim the wonders of one over the other. While programs like Internet Explorer® are useful to many people, some users may want to consider Firefox® if they have faced certain problems, such as security breaches and download problems, in the past. Every browser software has its pros and cons, but Firefox® is often rated among the fastest and most secure available. It does have drawbacks, however, including compatibility and memory issues.
Advantages
Speed — Firefox® is said to be the fastest browser in terms of download speed. Not only do programs and files download faster, but users get a record of all their downloads in table form, so they can delete or move them around as they please.
Security: This browser has some advanced security measures that help protect a computer from spyware and even some viruses. It also comes with a state of the art popup blocker that blocks almost 100% of popups.
Tabbed Browsing and other advanced features — Tabbed Browsing allows the user to open an unlimited number of pages in a single window, thus helping to organize the browsing. Firefox® also has built-in memory, which means that if the computer is accidentally turned off, the browser will remember which sites were open and offer to restore the previous session.
Disadvantages
Compatibility Issues — The main disadvantage of Firefox® is compatibility. Some websites do not display properly in this browser and require the user to view them with IE®.
Memory: Firefox® requires a lot of memory to run. Even with an updated computer, some users may find that it becomes difficult to run the browser when many other programs are open. The software also tends to crash and close when too many tabs are open at once which is why the brand has invested heavily in creating the reset memory feature.
Interrupted Service — Another disadvantage is that downloads cannot be resumed if they are interrupted. This may not be a big deal for people who have cable or DSL service, but those who use a dial-up connection may experience a lot of problems because of it. The browser was actually designed for people using high-speed internet, which means that dial-up users can run into a lot of problems while using the software.
