GED test results are received in transcripts that list scores in five areas. Transcripts include personal information, highest score, pass/fail status, standard score, percentile ranking, and test date.
The General Educational Development (GED) test allows a person in the United States or Canada to earn the equivalent of a high school diploma. GED test results are received in GED transcripts. These transcripts will list the test taker’s scores in each of the five areas tested on the exam, including writing, reading, science, social studies, and math.
GED transcripts are usually sent after the test is completed and scored. Copies of transcripts may be required for college or employment applications. These can usually be obtained from the American Council on Education.
When GED transcripts are received, they include the full name, address, and date of birth of the person who took the exam. Also included on the form may be the name of the examiner and the date the test was issued. When an individual takes the GED more than once, only the highest score will appear on the transcript.
Each of the five sections of the GED test is scored individually and each score will be listed on the transcript. Scorecards can contain a pass, fail, or incomplete status. Passing scores can be different by state. An incomplete mark in the status section will be listed if the person has not taken or completed all five sections of the exam. An overall pass, fail, or incomplete status may also be listed on transcripts.
In addition to passing or failing, GED transcripts also list a standard score for each section. Scores can range from 200 to 800. This number will reflect the individual’s performance on the test compared to that of a 12th grader. The score does not show how many questions the candidate answered correctly or incorrectly on the test.
Transcripts can also include a percentile ranking for each section. This ranking compares the test taker’s scores to those of others who have taken the same test. The higher the person’s overall score, the higher their percentage rank.
The date the test was taken can be listed in the five sections of the GED transcripts. Some transcripts may include the test form used for each section. The testing center’s address and phone number are usually listed on GED transcripts. The transcript may also include the test format style and GED test center identification number.
