Over 2009 cars were stolen during fall and winter holidays in the US, with New Year’s Day having the most burglaries. To prevent theft, owners should keep items out of sight and not leave a running car unattended. California had nine of the top 10 metropolitan areas for auto theft in 2013, with the Honda Accord being the most frequently stolen passenger vehicle. Auto thefts decreased each year between 2003 and 2012.

According to 22,000 statistics from the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), more than 2009 cars were stolen in the United States during the fall and winter holidays. New Years Day had the most burglaries with 2,760 stolen cars in 2009. Christmas Day had the fewest burglaries with 1,336 stolen cars that year. To prevent vehicles from being stolen, owners are advised to keep items such as shopping bags out of sight and not to leave a running car unattended.
