To become a reflexologist, one can take classes, attend workshops, and become board certified. However, laws regarding reflexology vary by location, and certification requirements differ between countries. It is important to research and understand the laws in one’s area before practicing reflexology.

Taking classes, practicing techniques, attending workshops, and becoming board certified are all important steps for someone who wants to become a reflexologist. Reflexologists follow a body map and apply pressure to specific areas of a person’s hands, feet or outer ears to heal other areas of the body. It is important to note that each state and country has different laws regarding reflexology. In fact, in some areas reflexology is not recognized as a legitimate practice. Consequently, no formal training is legally required.

There are many schools in the United States, Europe and Asia that offer reflexology classes. In some cases, massage therapy schools are offering reflexology classes as part of the curriculum. In other cases, the entire institution is geared towards helping a student become a reflexologist. There are even at-home programs for a person who wants to become a reflexologist but doesn’t want a structured program. A solid reflexology program typically offers classes in anatomy, ethics, physiology, business practices, and reflexology techniques.

In the United States, it is possible to become certified in reflexology. This means that a person who wants to become a reflexologist has met certain standards of knowledge and skills. The person must pass an exam and complete a hands-on course in reflexology, worth at least 110 hours. Consequently, if a person wants to earn certification, home-based courses generally do not count towards the 110-hour hands-on prerequisite.

There are also international standards for reflexology. In most of Europe, a person wanting to become a reflexologist must complete nearly 350 hours of study – far more than is required in the United States. It is possible for someone to receive their education outside of the United States and also be certified within the United States.

In addition to classwork, a person desiring to be a reflexologist should read and study current books on the subject. Having a current and comprehensive library is considered beneficial for both the reflexologist and the client. There are also workshops where advanced reflexology techniques are taught for those wishing to become a reflexologist.

Since laws vary from location to location, it is up to the individual who wants to be a reflexologist to learn the laws of their area. Just because she’s certified doesn’t mean she can legally practice. In some areas, she must have a massage license, and in others, an adult entertainment license before legally practicing reflexology. Additionally, some areas prohibit reflexologists from working outside their homes, while others have no laws.
