How to plan a baby shower?

A baby shower is a party to celebrate an expectant couple’s first child. Traditionally women-only, couples events are becoming popular. The purpose is to give gifts to the mother so she won’t have to spend much money on baby items. Invitations should be sent at least 30 days before the event, and guests should arrive an hour before the guest of honor. After opening presents, refreshments are served, and guests can leave. The father-to-be should arrange transportation for gifts.

A bashower is a party held to honor a couple who are joyfully expecting their first child. Traditionally, it’s a women-only event, but “couples” events are gaining popularity. The purpose of the shower is to give the expectant mother gifts so that she has the necessary items for the baby on the day of arrival and the happy couple, hence, she won’t have to spend so much of her own money on crib sheets and adorable outfits.

Baby showers are simple to plan and, in most cases, go off without a hitch. It is customary for showers like this to come as a surprise. If this is the case, you will have to do all of the planning without the expectant mother’s knowledge. That means you’ll need to enlist the help of the dad-to-be who will provide you with a list of the guest of honor’s family, friends, co-workers, and anyone else who will be in attendance. He will also need to provide you with a list of needed items and a registry list if the couple is registered with one of the large baby emporiums.

Invitations must be sent at least thirty days before the event. Let guests know that the shower is a surprise and that their arrival time should be at least sixty minutes before that of the guest of honor. You can also advise guests to contact you if they want gift suggestions or registry information. It’s up to you as the host to find out in advance what gifts guests will bring to ensure there are no duplicates. Guests who live too far away or who can’t attend for other reasons can mail their gifts to you.

On shower day, make sure chairs are positioned to provide everyone with a view of the main event: the opening of presents. The expectant mother should have a large comfortable chair as she will, no doubt, be sitting for a while. Direct your guests to this room and engage them in conversation or play ice-breaking party games until the guest of honor arrives. After she arrives and expresses her surprise at her, she can be seated in her special chair. As a host you should have a couple of guests, perhaps family members, to help you deliver presents to the expectant mother, by taking away the gift wrap and writing down a list of the gifts that have been given and the generous people who have given each gift. This is to help parents-to-be write thank you cards.

After all the gifts have been opened and properly oohed and aahed, refreshments are usually served. You don’t need to provide a meal for your guests, but some sort of food and drink is expected. This can range from snacks and finger foods to a catered meal. No matter what type of food you serve, a congratulatory cake will also be expected. Many guests purchase a sheet cake with matching words and decorations. Once the cake and coffee are finished, guests are free to leave. Don’t worry about all that cleaning; there are always latecomers who are happy to help. If the father-to-be hasn’t arrived to help his significant other bring home his bounty, transportation should be arranged.

With a bit of luck the shower will go off without a hitch. Thanks to you and your guests, the expectant couple will have many of the things they need to help them when they bring their bundle of joy home.
