High employee turnover is costly for employers in terms of time and resources. Organizations may have in-house HR staff or outsource recruitment needs to an employment agency. HR personnel customize job postings, track resumes, conduct interviews, and equip new employees.
Employers who experience high employee turnover pay a heavy price in terms of time and resources spent interviewing and training new employees. For this reason, many organizations have staff in charge of recruiting human resources in addition to meeting the human resource needs of existing staff. Organizations that do not have in-house HR staff may turn to human resource outsourcing to meet occasional human resource recruitment needs.
Internal staff tasked with recruiting human resources, such as a manager or director of human resources, often have a job posting template that they customize when recruiting new employees. This template usually includes a brief overview of the organization, as well as information that a potential new recruit might find interesting, such as the salary range and benefits of the position. HR personnel will consult with the staff member tasked with supervising the new employee to determine the qualifications and responsibilities required by the position. Once the job advertisement is placed, HR personnel are responsible for tracking incoming resumes and arranging interviews with qualified candidates.
HR personnel will participate in candidate interviews along with the supervisor or other employee who will work closely with the new recruit. At this point, HR personnel will turn to Human Resources Recruitment Training to determine what questions to ask the candidate, as well as assess the candidate’s responses, body language, and general demeanor. After the interview, HR personnel will assess the candidate’s potential with the organization and discuss their recommendations with the supervisor. If a job offer is made to the candidate and the candidate accepts, HR personnel will equip the new employee with the necessary keys, uniforms or passwords for the job and ensure that the employee completes and returns all necessary paperwork to the new team.
Organizations that choose to outsource their human resource recruitment needs will hire an employment agency or “headhunter”. After gathering the specific details of what the organization is looking for, the agency selects a candidate from its own pool of job applicants on file or places a job advertisement on behalf of the organization. Depending on the agreement between the agency and the organization, employees hired through an employment agency are employees of that agency rather than the organization they are matched with, usually for a designated period of time. After the period ends, the organization may choose to hire the individual as its own employee.
