The GRE is a common test for graduate students, with three formats available: computer-based, paper-based, and split test. Registration can be done online, by phone, fax, or mail, with payment required. The official ETS website provides information on test formats and locations.

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is the most common test for graduate students. Most liberal arts and sciences programs accept GRE exam scores as part of a prospective candidate’s application. There are three GRE formats: computer-based, paper-based administration, and split test. To register for the GRE, you must first check which format is offered in your area, after which you can register online, by phone, fax or mail. You must pay a fee to register for the GRE, and you will receive a voucher within a few weeks that will allow you to schedule a time to take the test.

If you wish to register for the GRE, consult the exam administrator, Educational Testing Service (ETS). The official ETS website provides information about the types of test formats available at one location. Most areas administer the GRE in a computer-based format. In areas where computer-based testing is not available, a paper format is offered. China, Korea, and Taiwan are examples of places where split test administration is offered.

The official ETS website allows you to select your location to see which test format is offered in your area. Once the correct format has been determined, you can register for the GRE online, by phone, or by mail. Desktop test takers can search for an available testing location in their area on the official ETS website. Dates and times of available tests at various testing locations can be viewed prior to confirming registration. To register for the GRE online, a major credit or debit card is required for payment.

Registration for a US computer-based GRE exam can also be completed over the phone by contacting a designated testing center directly or calling their toll free number. Exam candidates may also download and email a completed Authorization Voucher Request Form. Within four weeks, a voucher should be received with instructions on how to schedule a testing appointment.

For applicants residing outside of the United States, registration can be completed online, by phone, fax, or mail. An International Test Scheduling Form must be submitted to the appropriate Regional Registration Center if you are registering by fax or mail. Multiple payment methods are allowed, including credit or debit cards.

To register for the GRE in paper format, complete a registration form online or by mail. Instructions for both methods are available by contacting ETS. Payment by major credit or debit card is not available for participants residing in Nigeria for any format.
