Human resource management covers all aspects of an employee’s relationship with an organization, including hiring, training, and employee health and safety. The scope of human resource management is vast because it encompasses virtually every aspect of an employee’s relationship with an organization. All these activities are related to the smooth functioning of an organization and are oriented towards increasing employee efficiency, productivity and company profits.

Part of the scope of HR management is to identify when there is a labor shortage in an organization. In large organizations, the HR department identifies the departments within the organization that need more staff. Such a need may arise due to factors such as previous workers retiring, workers being laid off, or employees leaving voluntarily. Another way openings can arise is through labor shortages created by increased consumer demand and resulting higher productivity. The HR department determines the number of employees needed to fill the gap in various departments.

Once a determination of needed employees has been made, another part of the HR management scope is to conduct interviews and other necessary steps to fill vacancies. This may include placing newspaper advertisements and selecting the time, date and location of the interview. After the interviews have been conducted, the human resources department will act as a point of contact for prospective employees who can call the department regarding the outcome of their interviews. HR also sends emails or letters to interviewees informing them of the interviewers’ decision, whether or not they were selected for the position.

Another part of the HR scope is to organize the training and orientation of new employees. This department is also responsible for keeping up with the ongoing development of former employees, which may include organizing regular refresher courses and seminars. In businesses that deal with hazardous chemicals or equipment in the workplace, such as laboratories and manufacturing facilities, HR will make arrangements for employee education regarding various chemicals. In countries like the United States, regulations require this type of training and education to be repeated whenever new chemicals or machinery are added.

HR must manage the health and well-being of its employees by providing the resources necessary to achieve these goals. For example, your human resources department might be responsible for arranging transportation for qualified employees in some organizations. They can also help employees with personal development issues such as arranging motivational speakers to address staff and helping employees pay for all or part of their tuition.
