Hypoglycemic effect: what is it?

Print anything with Printful

Blood sugar-lowering effects can be harmful, causing hypoglycemia, which can result from diabetes, disease, drugs, tumors, or enzyme/hormone deficiencies. Symptoms include headaches, tiredness, hunger, and irritability, and can lead to muscle pain, fainting, excessive sweating, memory loss, and hallucinations. Foods high in simple carbohydrates, high-starch foods, and drinks containing alcohol or caffeine can cause hypoglycemia. Herbs and drugs with hypoglycemic effects are used to treat diabetes but should be administered carefully. It’s important for diabetics to maintain healthy blood sugar levels with the help of a dietician or nutritionist.

A blood sugar-lowering effect occurs when an agent, such as a food, herb, or drug, causes insulin to drop rapidly in the blood. This usually only happens in diabetics. A blood sugar lowering effect can be very harmful to the body.

Hypoglycemia is commonly referred to as hypoglycemia or hypoglycemia. This condition normally occurs as a side effect of diabetes, due to unstable blood sugar levels. When it occurs in a non-diabetic, it is the result of a disease, a drug, a tumor, or a deficiency of an enzyme or hormone.

When blood glucose dropped below a normal level, hypoglycemia occurred. This happens if an agent with a hypoglycemic effect is ingested into the bloodstream. When this happens, an individual’s blood glucose level will rise at such a rapid rate that the pancreas overreacts. This produces large amounts of insulin, causing a dramatic downward spiral in blood glucose.

There are many symptoms of hypoglycemia. These generally include headaches, tiredness, hunger, nervousness and irritability. In extreme cases, symptoms include muscle pain, fainting, excessive sweating, memory loss and hallucinations. There have been cases, albeit rare, where death has occurred.

There are many foods that have a blood sugar lowering effect. Foods high in simple carbohydrates, or simple sugars, normally have this effect on the body. Common sugars range from honey, corn syrup and table sugar to products like fruits and milk.
Foods with a high starch content also tend to cause a blood sugar lowering effect. Some examples of these foods are potatoes, white rice, corn and popcorn. Drinks containing alcohol or caffeine also usually have this effect.

There are also herbs with a hypoglycemic effect. Examples are aloe vera, ginger root, American ginseng, turmeric and cinnamon bark. Many doctors will, at times, intentionally use herbs in small doses to treat diabetes. This is because herbs do not normally create side effects.

Professionals also intentionally administer drugs with a hypoglycemic effect. These are called oral hypoglycemic agents. The five classes of these agents are sulfonylureas, meglitinides, biguanides, thiazolidineodiones, and alpha-glucosidase inhibitors. They are used for patients who have diabetes but are not insulin dependent.

Diabetes is the cause of many types of health problems. It is therefore extremely important for people who have the disease to maintain a healthy blood sugar level. It can be very helpful for a diabetic to consult a registered dietician or nutritionist and create a specific diet plan for them to follow. As a result, a hypoglycaemic effect will probably be avoided.
