The US Supreme Court forced the Virginia Military Institute to admit women. (1996) In United States v. Virginia the Court held that public funding meant the school could not screen applicants based on gender. All other US military schools had already started admitting women.

The Pied Piper guided 130 children from Hamelin, Germany. (1284) The story has become mostly fable, but the original references indicate that a piper in many-colored robes took the children of the town and they were never seen again. Some speculate that the story could be an allegory for the deaths of children from plague or other event.

In January 1993, missiles were also fired by the United States, France and Great Britain against some Iraqi missile sites.
