All test facilities have standard reporting required as part of their operating procedures. This can include the number of samples processed, equipment issues, anomalies, and other quality concerns.
Reports to the public health department may include multiple samples from a specific area with the same bacteria or disease, foodborne or waterborne bacteria, or unusually high rates of certain fungi or fungal particles. Other technologists’ internal documents may include procedural changes or recommendations.

The level of available positions varies by industry and education level. In general, laboratory technologists must complete additional training to advance in their careers. To become a supervisor, training in personnel management is generally recommended.
