Living on a private island: What’s it like?

[ad_1]

Cirque du Soleil co-founder Guy Laliberté owns Nukutepipi, a French Polynesian atoll that can be rented exclusively for $1.1 million USD per week on Airbnb Luxe. Other celebrities who own islands include David Copperfield, Tyler Perry, Pamela Anderson, and Nicolas Cage. Some have also spent large sums of money on Virgin Galactic tickets or extravagant purchases like a $38 million 24-karat gold toilet.

It may be that no man is an island, but that certainly hasn’t stopped people from buying their own slice of paradise. Take Guy Laliberté, the co-founder of Cirque du Soleil. Since 2007 he has owned Nukutepipi, a pristine sandy atoll in French Polynesia with all kinds of plant and animal life. And now he has human life too, at least sometimes. Nukutepipi can be rented exclusively by up to 52 people for approximately $1.1 million USD per week. It’s even listed on Airbnb Luxe, the luxury getaway rental company’s new venture. For those lucky enough to receive an invitation, Nukutepipi offers kitesurfing, sailing, canoeing, tennis, archery, star gazing at the observatory and much more. When tired, guests can choose from 16 bungalows and villas directly on the beach and dine on gourmet meals, with approximately 100 staff members available to cater to their every need.

What to do with all that money:

Other celebrities who own islands include David Copperfield, Tyler Perry, Pamela Anderson and Nicolas Cage.
Hundreds of people have bought tickets for Virgin Galactic’s scheduled flights into space for $250,000 USD, though none have flown yet.
In 2002, a Hong Kong jeweler reportedly spent $38 million on a 24-karat gold toilet as part of a shrine dedicated to Russian leader Vladimir Lenin.
