Students who have difficulty reading may also find that online schooling is not ideal for their situations. Since online courses involve reading emails, class notes, and messages posted on the class bulletin board, being a competent reader is key when participating in online school. An online student needs to be able to digest difficult topics just by reading a lot, since they don’t have the luxury of sitting in a classroom listening to the professor lecture. If a student is not prepared to do a great deal of independent reading, she should seriously consider enrolling in a mainstream school instead of one that offers online courses.
