Roustabout oil rig jobs involve routine manual work such as cleaning, painting, and moving equipment. They require physical stamina, a positive attitude, and may work long hours in all weather conditions. On-the-job training is provided, and a high school diploma or BOSIET certificate may be required.

Beginner, unskilled or semi-skilled manual work on an oil rig is called routine work. Roustabouts may also be known as roaring hands, ground hands or lease hands. There may be two or three grievances on an oil rig crew and they are expected to do all the heavy lifting on the oil rig.

There are many different types of entry-level screenwriting jobs. Roustabout oil jobs can include cleaning decks, removing rust and painting the oil rig or moving supplies, machinery and equipment from one location to another. A routine job might also include digging ditches and clearing drains.

Routine jobs may involve thread cleaning and lubrication, welding and assembly work, or repair of oil rig equipment. Roustabouts may be required to perform basic maintenance work and assist in obtaining and testing drillhole samples. They can operate air, water and mud pumps.

Other routine jobs include connecting and checking water and air hoses and power supply cables. Roustabouts can mix and pour concrete. They must ensure there are no safety hazards and be willing to perform virtually any type of oil rig task assigned to them.

Roustabout oil rig jobs are physically demanding, sometimes dangerous and work hours can be long. Roustabouts may have to work seven days a week for up to 10 or 12 hours. They work outdoors mostly and in all types of weather.

The job requires strong, energetic people with a lot of stamina and a good attitude. It’s important to have a positive work ethic, be a quick learner, and be able to follow and follow instructions. Experienced roustabouts can, in time, move up the ladder to work in crew positions on an oil rig.

There are many open positions. It is not necessary to have a college degree for day-to-day jobs, but some oil companies may require a high school diploma. It is a definite advantage to have a BOSIET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Training Training) certificate or Helicopter Survival Course (HUET) certificate, and to have experience with mechanical and manual work.

A medical certificate attesting to good physical condition is essential. Given the strenuous nature of the work, people with drug or alcohol problems will not be considered. Many companies can perform routine checkups to ensure that their employees are clean.

Selected roustabouts generally undergo on-the-job training for two to three weeks before being put on an oil rig. Roustabouts can be housed and fed at or near the work site. They receive high salaries and many fringe benefits.
