Sales trainees learn about products and services to become successful salespeople. They can prepare through training classes, studying manuals or videos, and observing experienced salespeople. A high school diploma is usually required, but a college degree may be preferred in specialized fields.

A sales trainee prepares to become a salesperson who will sell a company’s products or services. His goal is to learn about the products and services he will sell and become the best salesperson possible. If he achieves this goal, he can potentially make a lot of money from the company that hires him and secure a good amount of money in the form of commissions, salaries and bonuses. That way, most sales interns learn how to generate leads, present effective sales proposals, and close sales. They can also learn to overcome the most common reasons potential customers refuse to buy a product or service.

There are several ways a sales intern can prepare to become a salesperson. Some companies offer sales training classes in person or online. Many provide manuals or videos that an intern can also study. In some cases, testing is involved. For example, a sales intern might have to study a company’s product descriptions, processes, and specifications and then take a test of their knowledge before starting to sell on their own.

A sales intern may also spend a significant amount of time watching experienced salespeople in action. For example, an intern can follow a salesperson when he helps customers or sits with him while he makes sales calls. By doing this, he can learn how to make a sales pitch and communicate with customers. Over time, he can start interacting with customers on his own, and sometimes the more experienced salesperson will observe the trainee. Once this occurs, the more experienced salesperson can make suggestions on how the trainee can improve his sales technique.

In many cases, a high school diploma is required when a person wants to become a sales trainee, but most people do not need a college degree. Most employers are more interested in a candidate’s sales skills than their educational background. Some exceptions to this, however, are in situations that require a person to sell a highly technical or specialized product or service. In this case, a prospective employer might give preference to an individual with a degree in a related course, such as engineering or medicine; marketing and business degrees are generally not required, but may also be of interest to some employers. Even in the case of technical products, however, many employers are willing to hire people with industry experience rather than a formal education.
