Digg.com can be slow, but the Digg Navigation Firefox Extension reduces page loads by giving direct access to Digg pages with one click. Right-clicking on a page allows access to most Digg pages, and options include selecting how links open and entering up to 10 usernames. The extension also helps speed up Digg for everyone and encourages users to visit less-visited sections. Version 1.1 fixed some links and added support for right-clicking on individual stories. It is common among Diggaholics to complain about the speed of digg.com. Even if it’s just a well-organized collection of links and text, Digg can be a painfully slow site, especially during peak hours. With so many users and so many database queries, it’s no surprise that you often have to wait several seconds just to view a page.
While we can’t speed up the Digg cluster, we’ve created an extension that can reduce the number of page loads needed to reach your desired destination.
Digg Navigation Firefox Extension
Works with: FireFox 1.5 – 2.0
This extension gives you direct access to a wide variety of Digg pages with just one click. The pop-up menus are organized exactly like the Digg site, so it’s easy to jump directly to a category or sub-category of posts, choosing the time period they were posted and sorting. Normally, it would take four clicks to see the duggest maverick news of the last 24 hours. This would mean waiting for four different pages to load before finally getting where you want to go; this extension cuts your browsing time to a fraction of what it was by getting you there in just one page load!
Characteristics
Right-click any page on the Internet and you will see “Digg Browsing” in the context menu. This will allow you to access most Digg pages.
If you right click on a username link, you will get some extra options associated with that user. These extra options will also appear when you right-click on any user’s profile page.
If you right-click on the yellow box showing the number of Diggs, your context sensitive menu will include some options related to that particular story.
Options
You can access the options menu for this extension by going to: Tools > Extensions > highlight the Digg navigation extension and click “Options”
You can enter your username so that you can quickly access all your pages
You can also enter the usernames of up to 10 other Diggers so you can quickly access their pages. These users don’t have to be your friends or fans; adding their names will only give you access to all their profile pages.
You can select how links open, in the same tab or in new tabs.
And here’s the best part: The more people use this nifty little tool, the faster Digg will be for everyone. Going straight to your desired Digg destination means you don’t have to wait for all the pages in your way, but it also means that people who aren’t using this tool will have less competition for resources and their pages will load faster, too.
We also hope that the extension will attract more users to the less visited sections of Digg.
