Conveyor belt systems transport materials and products in various industries. The tape can withstand both very high and very low temperatures which could destroy tapes made from more traditional materials, such as rubber and fabric. One of the most popular conveyor systems, the gravity roller is easy to install and extremely versatile. It is a non-powered roller system that is primarily used in warehouses to transport canned or otherwise tightly packed materials that cannot slide between the rollers. Able to support a wide range of weights, they are primarily used to carry dry, solid objects that are not damaged by small amounts of vibration. They are not suitable for carrying semi-solid, wet or sticky or powdery or liquid objects. Gravity rollers only carry objects that have regular shapes and cannot tip over.

Motorized roller conveyors are truly versatile systems because they can transport materials both horizontally and uphill. They are essentially gravity rollers powered by a motor and can carry fairly light packs and parcels. The arrangement of the rollers makes the progress of the conveyed material independent of gravity. Another added benefit is the ability of these conveyors to handle accumulation. When packages reach the end of the conveyor, they can pile up without any system damage until they are transferred; this only applies to light packs.

Heavier loads are moved by chain conveyors, which can be considered the four-wheel drive equivalent in the wide range of conveyor belt systems. Each roller is connected to the one next to it with a combination of chain and sprocket, which gives the roller great traction and power. The structure of the roller prevents slipping, making it the best choice for transporting loads on pallets. The motor in this type of conveyor is mounted in the center which helps distribute the torque evenly.
