Exercise bands, also known as resistance bands, come in different shapes, lengths, and resistance levels. They can be wrapped around extremities or stationary objects to provide resistance. The color of the band indicates the level of resistance, and multiple bands can be used together for more resistance.

Exercise bands are rubber bands used to perform a series of resistance exercises. They are often called resistance bands, and they come in a variety of resistance levels, shapes, and lengths. Some exercise bands are simply rubber loops that can be wrapped around extremities of the body or around a stationary object to provide resistance. Other bands are straight lengths of rubber with handles at each end. Both varieties of exercise bands come in different resistance levels that are delineated by the color of the band, and some bands come with versatile handles that accept more than one length of rubber band.

Perhaps the most common exercise bands are colored rubber loops that may or may not have soft padding around the band or in specific locations on the band. These bands can be wrapped around the arms and legs to enhance a specific exercise, or they can be wrapped around a stationary object and manipulated to create your own exercises. Loop exercise bands are useful for twisting around the ball of your foot and pulling up for bicep curls or other similar exercises. They are also useful during basic exercises; The band can be wrapped around both knees while squatting to engage your core muscles.

Straight exercise bands with handles on each end are also useful for looping around the ball of the foot. These bands are typically longer than loop bands, so rowing exercises can be performed as well as certain plyometric exercises that promote explosive power. The handles are comfortable to grip, but are also useful for wrapping around stationary objects to provide resistance. Some versions of exercise bands with handles are actually part of a system with individual hand grips. The bands hook into a hook system on the grips, and more than one band can be attached to both grips to add even more resistance.

The color of the band indicates approximately how much resistance it will provide. Lighter colors generally provide less resistance, while darker colors provide more resistance. Exercise band resistance is not measured with the same precision as weights, as the actual resistance provided by the band depends on the length you pull, the force with which you pull, and various other factors. To increase the resistance level beyond the limit of the highest resistance band, multiple bands can be held together.
