Mobile computing refers to computing activities through portable devices that allow access to a network. Mobile devices include smartphones, PDAs, laptops, and tablets. These devices enable communication, business tasks, and unrestricted movement. The choice of device depends on individual needs.

Mobile computing is a term used to describe the application of computing activities through various devices that can be easily carried by the individual as opposed to devices that are tied to a specific location. Such mobile systems still allow the individual access to a network, giving him the added benefit of mobility. There are many mobile computing applications that allow people to move from place to place, while still being able to access a network through those devices. These tools include mobile phones and personal digital assistants (PDAs) as well as other types of mobile computing applications such as laptops and tablets.

One of the most common mobile computing applications is the mobile phone, a device that performs many roles at once. This device functions as a mobile computing device, depending on the type of mobile phone. Virtually all smartphones are used for many activities other than phone calls, including chatting, emailing, and business communication. Some of these business communications include sending documents, remotely controlling your office computer to access certain information, receiving pictures or videos, and sending them. Smartphones are not the only mobile computing applications, because PDAs are also communication-related mobile computing applications.

Another category of mobile computing applications are laptops, which come in different configurations and sizes. Depending on the needs of the individual, the laptop could be in the form of a small netbook or it could be a much larger sized notebook. These particular mobile computing applications can be used for a wide variety of tasks and also allow the individual to carry the devices on the go, while still maintaining the connection through a defined or shared network.

Tablets are also mobile applications that allow the user to move around without restrictions as a result of being able to run all the necessary applications usually run on a stationary computer on a mobile computing device. The tablet has its own unique features and attributes which separate it from the other types of mobile computing applications. However, all applications have their advantages and the choice of a mobile device depends on the individual.
