Telecommunications involves communicating voice, data, text, images, and video over long distances through telephone, radio, TV, or computer networks. Telecommunications solutions are products or services offered to assist customers in using telecommunications, often for corporate customers. Examples include VoIP, mobile devices, and webinar software. Contractors may provide complete solutions including wired or wireless internet and telephone systems. Video surveillance and security camera systems are also telecommunications solutions.
Telecommunications, in more general terms, means communicating voice, data, text, images and video over long distances. More specifically, telecommunications are the science and technology of communicating by telephone, radio, television or by and/or through computer networks, including the Internet. Telecommunications solutions, therefore, are products, services, or combinations of the two offered by businesses to assist customers in the effective use of telecommunications. Telecommunication solutions more often refer to a package created specifically for corporate customers, rather than something specifically designed for residential or individual users. It can also refer to a general solution that can be used by everyone.
VoIP (Voice-over Internet Protocol), which allows you to make computer-to-computer or telephone and telephone-to-telephone or computer calls, is one of the telecommunications solutions that has grown tremendously in popularity. Mobile devices, such as personal digital assistants (PDAs) and smartphones, as well as innovations in ways to carry phone calls including WiFi, 3G, and both versions of 4G — WiMAX and LTE — are other examples of telecommunications solutions that they partially or completely take the place of the old landline-to-landline phone call.
Webinar software, also known as online presentation software or web conferencing software, is one of the telecommunication solutions that can save businesses a great deal of money in airline tickets and delays until people can reach a commonplace. It is designed to enable a wide range of sharing and interchange in a single package, often including audio, video, document sharing, and sharing of computer screens and other resources between colleagues who are not in the same location. Some examples are Cisco® WebEx®, Adobe® Acrobat® Connect® and IBM® LotusLive®.
When telecommunications solutions are used to refer to the complete solution that a contractor provides to a business after being advised of all of the business’s telecommunications needs, this could often include a wired or wireless Internet and telephone system. In the latter case, the solution may involve a network of computers – including routers, switches, cables, etc. – with hardware including servers, desktop and laptop computers, peripherals, software, a content management system, a backup system, a business dashboard, training, support and a management portal.
Video surveillance and security camera systems are another type of telecommunications solution, although they are probably not often considered in this category by those who don’t work with them. Security solutions use telecommunications to enable organizations to maintain awareness and control of their building and perimeter. Options include HD (high definition) video, as well as CCTV (closed circuit TV) and IP (Internet Protocol) cameras.
