EXIF data is traditionally only accessible with local software, but a web-based tool has been created to make it easily accessible. The tool can be used to view EXIF information for .jpg photographs, including aperture and shutter settings, camera make and model, and date taken. Editing images can remove EXIF data.

Traditionally, EXIF data was only accessible with software that had to be loaded onto a local computer. To make image file data easily accessible to anyone who might be interested, we’ve created a simple web-based tool.
To use EXIF Data Viewer, specify a .jpg photograph in one of the fields below. To see the EXIF information for a photo on Flickr, use the nine-digit number at the end of the Flickr URL for that photo. For images saved on your computer, click the “browse” button to identify the location and then submit. For more images on the web, simply copy and paste the URL into the rightmost field.
Using images created by a camera and not yet edited will give the most informative Exif results.

EXIF data describes specification information saved as part of digital photographs. Exif is a shortened version of the exchangeable image file format standardized by the Japan Electronic Industry Development Association (JEIDA) to support the use and sharing of digital photography. While primarily for use with the .jpg format, other file formats are supported, including some audio formats.
Examples of information that can be found in the EXIF data for a given image include aperture and shutter settings, make and model of camera used, and the date the photo was taken (depending on the camera). While not supported by cameras, once downloaded to a computer, Exif metadata can be updated to include location and geotags, as well as an image description and copyright information.

Editing images often removes them from the Exif data, so the most detailed information will come from images that haven’t been edited since they were originally photographed.
