What are concrete grinders?

[ad_1]

Concrete floor grinders use rotating discs to level, smooth, or clean surfaces. They are powered by gas or propane and come with dust collectors and vacuum cleaners. They can be rented and range in price from $2,000 to $5,000.

Concrete floor grinders are vacuum cleaner-sized tools that use horizontally rotating discs to level, smooth, or clean a concrete surface. They work best for removing between 1/16″ and 1/8″ of surface material. Concrete floor grinders are analogous to “fine” sandpaper in a range of masonry tools that include planes, scabblers, scalers, and blasters. Floor grinders can produce the smoothest looking surfaces compared to these other tools.

Floor sanders are equipped with a rubber sleeve to ensure that the cement dust produced by the grinding apparatus is contained. Discs are available with some accessories: brushes, wheels, scarifiers and diamond segment inserts. Discs of various hardnesses can be found on the market. Twin counter-rotating disc designs are sometimes used to offer greater control to the operator.

Most concrete floor grinders are gas or propane powered and do not require a wall outlet. For wet sanding jobs, some models come with two-gallon water tanks. Almost all models are equipped with a dust collector and vacuum cleaner. Dyma(TM) brand grinders are among the most powerful floor grinders, using diamond-reinforced discs to produce results up to four times faster than other grinders.

Special “edge grinders” are used to grind difficult angles and sometimes walls. The softer pads attached to floor grinders can be used to polish the more sensitive brick and stone surfaces. Concrete floor grinders are often rented rather than purchased. They are powered by engines ranging from 2HP to around 15HP.

In addition to industrial or civil applications, floor sanders are used in residential settings, for example to produce a rustic texture on stone or concrete. Floor sanders range in working width from about six inches to two feet (about 15-61 cm), weighing between 100 and 300 pounds (about 45-136 kg). These grinders generally cost between two and five thousand dollars. Special variants that can grind ceilings tend to come with a small crane and are more expensive.
