Slingbacks are women’s shoes with a heel and straps on either side of the foot, often without a buckle. They first became popular in the 1930s and have since been reinvented with various styles. They are often confused with sandals with ankle straps, but the main difference is that the ankle strap crosses over the top of the foot. Modern variants include slides and mules. To maintain the attractive look of open-backed shoes, regular foot exfoliation and moisturizing is recommended.

Slingbacks are a type of women’s shoe, often a fancy sandal or pump that features a heel, ankle, crossover, or over-the-ankle strap on either side of the foot. They may feature a buckle on the side of the foot, but many simply have the strap. Modern pairs can incorporate a bit of elastic to keep them on the foot without the need for a buckle.

The first slingbacks became popular in the 1930s. They were usually one of two designs. They either featured a pumped front drop box or had an open toe. In the second style, the top of the front of the foot was covered and the toes simply peeked out of the uncovered part. They are also called peep toe pumps. Strappy strappy sandals have become increasingly popular as you can simply slip your foot into the shoe without messing with the buckles.

This style of shoe is sometimes confused with sandals that feature an ankle strap. The main difference between braces and ankle straps is that the ankle strap crosses over the top of the foot. Ankle straps on sandals predate the sling style and were often worn, even on court shoes, to keep the shoe on while following some of the most vigorous dances of the 1920s. Slingbacks have the Occasional handicap of slipping, especially when the shoe doesn’t fit right.

Modern variants of this shoe are slides or mules. Like slingbacks, these feature designs cover the lower half of the upper foot, in pump styles, strappy sandal styles, or clog styles. They do not have a back strap, which is why they are often called “slip-ons”. Many prefer slides to slingbacks because they are easy to wear and do not blister the back of the heel.

Since the 1930s, slingbacks have been reinvented with virtually every shoe trend to incorporate the latest styles. They are sometimes worn on platform shoes, loafers or slingbacks, and even on Keds as tennis shoes. Espadrilles can feature this type of design, as can shoes with kitten heels, stilettos, or any other variety. They remain popular and stylish shoes and a nice variation on the traditional closed-toe look.

If you like to wear open-backed shoes, keep in mind that you will be showing part of your heel. To maintain this attractive look, consider regular foot exfoliation and moisturizing, especially when you’re not wearing nylons. This will feature sexy and exposed heels.
