Thermoforming uses heat to mold materials, often plastic sheeting. Ceramic heaters are common and come in various types, including electric infrared, convection, and gas. Single and double thermoforming heaters are available for different thicknesses and shapes.

Thermoforming is the method of heating and molding materials to make specific products. One of the materials commonly used in thermoforming is plastic sheeting or plastic film which is measured in a variety of thicknesses and sizes. There are also some ceramic thermoforming heaters that work well for wood and other low temperature substrates. Regardless of the material used in the thermoforming process, thermoforming heaters are used to create the heat needed to mold the products.

There are many different types of thermoforming heaters, including electric infrared thermoforming heaters, convection heating ovens, and gas thermoforming heaters. Electric infrared thermoforming heaters are typically made with ceramic, quartz tubes, lamps, metal sheathed tubes, flat face panels, or open coiled wire elements. Ceramic is the most common material used in thermoforming heaters because it allows the heaters to be small in size and can be used in a zone heater, which heats gently but has a high level of efficiency. There are some ceramic thermoforming heaters with a maximum temperature of 1,292° Fahrenheit (700° Celsius), with standardized voltage levels from 120 all the way up to 480. These heaters can be easily mounted on an angled iron grate for easy access. and use.

Single thermoform heaters are equipped to form plastic up to 3/16 inch (0.48 cm) thick. Another feature of this type of thermoforming heater is the ability to form a mold without placing a vacuum box under it, which is necessary with other types of thermoforming heaters to accurately create the shape of the mold. There is also a clamp on these thermoforming heaters that can be air fed or manually changed to fit various sizes.

Double thermoforming heaters, on the other hand, are operated entirely by electricity and have an enclosed heating area. Air clamps, loading stations and top plates can be purchased separately to further enhance the heater. These heaters have 110 volt control wiring and up to 15 pre-programmed sequences. The motions of these thermoforming heaters are powered by hydraulics to ensure a powerful yet smooth process.
