Cancun is a great place for a vacation with family-friendly activities like snorkeling at Playa Langosta, visiting Mayan ruins at Playa Delfines and Zona Arqueologica El Rey, and enjoying Mexican cuisine and nightlife at Yaxchilan Avenue and Hotel Zone clubs.

Located in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo and along the Yucatan peninsula, Cancun is a wonderful place in which to get away for some rest and recreation. While visiting Cancun, there are several local sites and entertainment that are great for all members of the family.

Because of the wonderful weather by the sea, a Mexican vacation like a visit to Cancun wouldn’t be complete without spending some time at the beach. One of the most beautiful beaches in the Cancun area is Playa Langosta. Considered one of the ideal beaches for swimming and other water sports, Playa Langosta has shallow waters ideal for snorkelling. Local services offer professionals who will supervise tourists who want to try snorkeling for the first time. Along with the fun water sports, the beaches are covered in the beautiful powdered coral sand which is one of Cancun’s defining characteristics. When holidaymakers want a quick break from the water, sand and sun, there are plenty of restaurants and bars located around the perimeter of the beach area.

No trip to Cancun would be complete without spending some time touring the area’s Mayan ruins. Playa Delfines is a beach with ample public parking within walking distance of several ruins, making it a great way to combine two activities into one. However, it’s important to note that the waters along this beach tend to involve surf, so many visitors prefer to take advantage of the excellent sun exposure and the chance to visit the ruins, rather than indulge in water sports.

For a more elaborate introduction into ancient Mayan culture, Zona Arqueologica El Rey could be the ideal centerpiece of a Cancun vacation. Included in this area is a small temple which features several ceremonial platforms. Private guide services will provide tours of the area, or tourists can choose to wander around at will. The iguanas often found sunbathing between the platforms will delight the children. In fact, all family members are likely to enjoy feeding iguanas chunks of bread.

Of course, visiting Cancun for rest and relaxation doesn’t have to preclude some nightlife. For a chance to enjoy Mexican cuisine, a visit to Yaxchilan Avenue in the downtown area will offer an array of salsa bars and restaurants. Several dance clubs are also located in the city centre. In Cancun’s Hotel Zone, there are a number of high-tech clubs that will appeal to singles and couples looking for a good time. Clubs such as DadyO’s, CocoBongo and Señor Frogs offer dancing, a range of cuisine and party opportunities that stretch until dawn. For families, there are also a number of entertainment clubs offering local music shows with dinner, with everything from traditional Mexican folk music to modern salsa available for evening entertainment.
