Malmstrom Air Force Base and Air Park has exhibits relating to the history of the base. The Air Park includes aircraft with missile launch consoles, uniforms and model aircraft exhibits. Aircraft include Voodoo, KC-97G, Shooting Star, B-251 and Mitchell Bomber. Admission is free, but it is advisable to call before the visit to check the opening hours.
The CM Russell Museum Complex features the sketches and paintings of the artist, Charles Marion Russell. CM Russell has created thousands of works of art related to the West. The museum complex occupies an entire city block and includes Russell’s home and studio, a museum area, and a gift shop. Russell’s personal items and Native American art are also on display at the Complex.
The Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail and Interpretive Center is located in Giant Springs Heritage Park in Great Falls. Meriwether Lewis and William Clark are thought to have been the first white explorers to see this area. The site offers historic walks and educational shows, as well as exhibits relating to Lewis and Clark’s exploration of Great Falls.
The people’s first Buffalo Jump State Park was once called Ulm Pishkun State Park. Pishkun is a Blackfoot word meaning “deep blood kettle”. The area is several thousand years old, and the native peoples killed bison here by forcing them over the cliffs. The Park has an educational center which explains the history of the “buffalo leap”.
Gibson Park is the largest park in Great Fall. The Park’s Gibson Pond is known for its swans, ducks, and other birds, as well as the famous boardwalk that encircles the pond. Gibson Park has leafy gardens and a children’s playground and is a popular green space in Great Falls for both residents and visitors.
