A piggyback forklift is a machine that can be mounted or hauled to the rear of a truck for transportation. It is used to load and unload goods at various locations and has a weight limit that varies by model. The lift is secured with safety chains and has a safety cage to protect the operator.

A piggyback forklift is a machine that mounts, or is hauled, to the rear end of another vehicle for transportation; Once the vehicle arrives at a specific location, the two-way forklift can be dismounted from the host truck and used to load or unload goods to and from the truck. This type of forklift is often mounted on the back of flatbed trucks or vans, so it can be used to load and unload materials at construction sites, factories, warehouses, retail stores and more. Forklift blades are used to secure the lifter to the forklift during transport.

The rear of the truck is effectively obscured by the piggyback forklift while it is mounted, so the lifter itself must be wired to the truck so that the brake lights are visible while driving. The lift itself must also be secured with safety chains to prevent the double-leaf forklift from accidentally disassembling during transport. The specific processes used to assemble and disassemble the lift may vary by manufacturer, but in general the procedures are fairly similar and backup systems are installed in case a mounting system fails.

One of the more common piggyback forklift designs features three wheels: two at the front of the vehicle and one at the rear. The rear wheel is mainly responsible for steering, while the two front wheels are responsible for stability when transporting pallets. The lift itself is usually smaller than other types of lifts, so it is compact enough to be transported easily. The lifter is usually highly manoeuvrable and capable of lifting pallets to the height of the truck bed. It may also be able to lift pallets much higher than that for easier on-site maneuverability.

The weight limit of the piggyback forklift varies by model. These types of forklifts tend to have lower weight capacities than other larger forklifts, as they are used for more limited purposes, although that does not mean they are inferior models. They usually feature pneumatic tires for greater stability and maneuverability, particularly over rough or rocky terrain, as opposed to solid rubber tires which aren’t as pliable or maneuverable on uneven surfaces. Like other types of elevators, the piggyback lift truck is likely to have a safety cage that protects the operator from falling objects and injury from tip-over accidents, which are possible if the elevator is overloaded.
