The 6×6 All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) is a six-wheeled vehicle that can operate on land and water. It uses hand controls to move independently on each side and can be used in all types of terrain, including snow and mud. Its unique design provides additional traction and makes it almost impossible to get stuck.

A 6×6 All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) is also known as a 6×6 Water All Terrain Vehicle (AATV), a six-wheeled vehicle designed to operate on both land and water. The 6×6 ATV does not have a steerable axle; rather the vehicle functions much like a tank. You simply lock one side of its wheels to spin and turn. The operator of a 6×6 ATV uses a set of hand controls much like a bulldozer, where two sticks are used to control the movement of the wheels on each side independently of the other.

Made with a fiberglass tub or plastic body, the 6×6 ATV uses a mid-mounted ATV engine that powers the drive wheels via a chain and sprocket. A clutch transmission is used to drive each side of three wheels and tires independently of the other or both sides combined, depending on the position of the controls. The operator pushes both control levers or levers forward to go forward or pulls them back; the right stick is moved forward while the left stick is pulled back to turn left; to turn right, the left stick is moved forward and the right stick is pulled back. Both levers are pulled back to brake by a forward motion.

Seals around the axles allow the 6×6 ATV to float and perform in water or mud. Tires provide motivation when the boat is water based. The 6×6 ATV is an all-weather vehicle with snow operation enhanced by track installation. The tracks fit over 6×6 ATV tires and can be used in mud, sand, and snow for maximum traction potential. Typically designed for one or two passengers, the six-wheel drive vehicle can be used on all types of terrain, from swamps to sand dunes to snow.

Unlike some ATVs, all the tires on one side of the 6×6 spin at the same speed and at the same time when under power. This provides additional traction, as a slight bounce in the operator’s seat can put at least one tire per side into a ground-biting position, in most cases. This makes the 6×6 ATV almost impossible to get stuck or stranded. Often just the actual breakdown of the machine can leave it incapacitated. While not as fast as other types of ATVs, the 6×6 ATV is much more capable of traversing all types of terrain, including wetlands, than most other types of ATVs.
