The business object model is based on facts, rather than a description of imaginary world objects and business relationships. Focuses on the most desired and optimal details of business practices. It presents information free from advanced data manipulation and the use of technological representations. The model can be considered as a general synthesis describing the various future management plans and aspects, with the understanding of the basic concepts and terminologies. But later it can also be used as a detailed business plan.

The model can be documented in two ways in general; a diagram of the relationships between entities and supporting text. The business object model describes the number of different entities in the business, including also entity hierarchies, associative entities, simple and complex relationships, multi-member relationship links, roles, and relationship attributes. Entity hierarchies present the structure of a company and relationships describe the interconnectedness between different entities. Multi-member relationships describe the multiple participation of entities in the business, and relationship roles are the representation of the roles that are played by different entities. There are other important components as well, which together form a business object model.
