Blade connectors are flat plates with beveled ends used as electrical wire terminations. They come in various sizes and are used in national wall receptacle schemes and low voltage connectors. Blade connectors are common in household appliances, power tools, and automotive wiring.

A blade connector is an electrical wire termination that consists of flat plates with beveled ends of various sizes. These connectors typically have a cable connection lug on one end and are designed to mate to a similarly sized flat female receptacle. The blade connector is used in several countries’ standard plugs as part of their national wall receptacle scheme. They are also widely used in a selection of low voltage pre-insulated plug-in connector products. These connectors come in a range of blade sizes for a variety of wire diameters and are often purchased in selections consisting of a number of different types and sizes.

Also known as a spade connector, the blade connector is one of the most common connector types in general use and, along with the round pin connector, is used in a significant proportion of all molded, insulated and non-insulated mating devices . The connectors consist of a flat, blunt metal blade that is mated to a mating female socket. The blades can be part of a two- or three-pin configuration in a standardized molded plug, as is the case with many national power outlet schemes around the world. These couplers are usually found pre-assembled on all network equipment or purchased in bulk for aftermarket applications.

Blade connector is also a common low voltage cable and wire termination in a non-insulated and pre-insulated format. These connectors are typically purchased in packs or kits that feature a selection of different sized connectors. Both formats have a provision at the rear of the connector for attaching a wire core. In the case of uninsulated connectors, this can be a crimp lug or a suitable lug for a solder joint. Pre-insulated connectors are usually crimped onto the wire core using a special crimping tool.

There are several sizes of standard blade connectors which are usually defined by the width of the blade and range from 0.09 to 0.25 inch (2.4 to 6.3 mm). The connectors are also sized to accommodate a range of wire thicknesses, typically 0.06 to 0.16 inch (1.5 to 4 mm). Single blade connectors are used in a large number of applications, with some of the most common being the connections of household appliances and power tools, electrical panel construction and automotive wiring. Due to its low cost, ease of use, and reliability, the blade connector is also a perennial favorite in many DIY hobe projects.
