A cookie stamp creates a design on top of a cookie without cutting it into a shape. It works best with thick dough and can be made from silicone rubber, wood, ceramic, metal, or resin. The stamp should be coated with oil or flour to prevent sticking. It can be used on cookies, fondant, candies, and pastries.

Once the oil or flour has been applied, the chef can gently but firmly press the stamp onto the ball. The result should be a flatter product, just indented with a precise pattern. The more the model is indented before firing, the more deeply the model will show on the final product.

A cookie stamp can be made from one of several materials. Silicone rubber is common due to its food safe material. Other popular materials include wood, ceramic, metal and resin. A potato sculpture can also be used as a temporary stamp, although the baker would have to be a smart enough person to attempt such a feat.

To create the indented pattern, the design needs to be lifted off the material. The stamp itself should be about a couple of inches wide to fully illustrate the design. If there are words involved, the design should be large and easy to read.

A cookie stamp or stamp set can be purchased online. Some online shops even sell personalized stamps. For those who prefer retail shopping, many specialty bakery shops carry these stamps. Department stores and drugstores may have them, particularly around the holidays, although they may be harder to find there.

A cookie stamp shouldn’t just be used on sugar cookies and peanut butter cookies. Cookies, fondant, candies, and pastries can all come in handy for using these stamps. Experienced bakers and novices alike can use a stamp to decorate cookies any time of year.
