A term paper is an academic paper completed at the end of a semester or academic year, also known as a term. It usually involves research, but not always. Generally, a course conclusion work aims to show how much the student has learned throughout the school term, and will usually focus on a specific subject of study that was covered during the year.

This type of work can also be called research work. It is usually at least a few pages long, depending on the subject and the grade level of the student completing the work. Mandate documents usually need to be typed and are also often double-spaced. However, each teacher may require different things in the final work. Sometimes a professor wants students to use a specific style guide when writing the paper, such as the Modern Language Association (MLA) or American Psychological Association (APA) style guide.

To write a term paper, the student will usually need to present an argument in a thesis statement format. Research can then be shown to support the thesis. A course conclusion work does not necessarily need to discuss a point; some works are purely informational and may focus on a significant event in history, or an important figure in science, politics or the arts, for example. Sometimes professors assign subjects for term papers, and sometimes they are left to the student’s discretion, within certain parameters.

In some cases, a final assignment may be a type of personal reflection completed by the student. This is especially common in earlier grades of school. A student might be assigned to write an article detailing what they learned in their favorite subject or class of the year, for example. This allows students to reflect on the school year and review their subjects while developing their writing skills.

It is always a requirement that a final paper be the student’s work and writing. Unfortunately, many students plagiarize articles by pulling information from the Internet or purchasing a complete article online. If the student is caught, he or she will generally not receive credit for the work and may face additional punishment. In college, students caught plagiarizing could be expelled from the classroom. It is never a good idea to use term documents that can be purchased or found for free online, or to hand in anything that is not your own work.
