What’s a diaper cake?

[ad_1]

A diaper cake is a unique baby shower gift made entirely of disposable nappies, rolled and wrapped around each other in a circular, layered pattern. It can be as elaborate or simple as desired and can hide large presents. Once the diapers are in place, ribbons and colors can be added. It’s a practical gift that gives new parents dozens of diapers right from the start.

Often seen at a baby shower, but rarely anywhere else, diaper cake is one of the most unique baby shower gifts an expecting mom could ever get. However, it’s not a cake we’d love to eat as it’s made entirely of disposable nappies. While it would be possible to use cloth diapers, this is rarely, if ever, done.
A diaper cake looks like a layered cake. Some might liken it to a wedding cake, at least from afar. Upon further inspection, the “cake” is nothing more than multiple diapers, and it usually takes dozens of them to get the full effect, rolled up and wrapped around each other in a circular, layered pattern. Often the nappies are white, but you can buy colored nappies that will make a really special nappy cake.

One of the attractions of the “cake” during the bashower is that it allows the giver many options. The cake can be as elaborate or as simple as one would like. It can take less than an hour to build, or it can be a project that spans several days. The nice thing about a diaper cake is that it can look very impressive no matter how much time you spend on it.

In a way, this cake is nothing more than an elaborate way to wrap a present or group of presents. These gifts are normally placed towards the center of the cake and allow the expectant mother to “unwrap” the cake to find out what is in the centre. Since the diaper cake can be quite large, it is capable of hiding some rather large presents.

A diaper cake starts by wrapping a single diaper, then adding more diapers rolled in a circle around that core. It’s easier to start with the highest level, which might just be a diaper, and work your way down from there. A three tier cake requires about 50 small diapers. Once the layers are made, smaller gifts can be placed in place of some diapers or, if they are small enough, they can be piled next to the diapers.

Once the diapers are all in place, you can add ribbons and other types of color features to the diaper cake. This really brings the creation to life and gives it a very high profile. Of course, if the baby’s gender is already known, the cake can be made in appropriate colors to celebrate that fact.

This not only offers the possibility of giving the expectant mother some nice gifts, but the gift packaging is also very practical. New parents will always need diapers and this gives them dozens right from the start, presented in a very unique way. Sure, it would only be possible to gift the expectant mother a case of diapers, but a diaper cake really shows thought and creativity.
